Chinese Government lends Vanuatu a sporting hand

China’s Ambassador to Vanuatu, Xie Bohua officially handed over containers full of sporting equipment to the caretaker Prime Minister, Sato Kilman.

“Today I am very happy, on behalf of the Chinese government, to offer Vanuatu a package of sport equipment at the beginning of 2016, which demonstrates both the actively supports of Chinese Government towards Vanuatu’s post-Pam reconstruction and another testimony of Sino-Vanuatu friendship,” Ambassador Xie said.

“The batch of equipment including football, basketball, volleyball, football, beach volleyball and other sports which are very popular among Vanuatu young people are designed to increase the Physical Education level in primary and middle school.

“Vanuatu is an important development partner for China in the South Pacific region. In recent years, the exchanges and cooperation between our two countries developed further in various fields. Besides infrastructure development, the Chinese government has strengthened its cooperation with Vanuatu in fields of education, sports and people to people. In 2016, China will continue to provide support to Vanuatu’s post-Pam reconstruction and offer whatever help within our capacity to improve Vanuatu’s economic development and people’s living standards.

“I wish that the friendly cooperation between China and Vanuatu could achieve more fruitful results in 2016,” Ambassador Bohua said in his official remarks.

In his speech, Prime Minister Kilman, thanked China in recognizing the importance of sports, by providing the sport equipment for youth to perfect their skills and aspire to one day become professional in their own right.

The handover ceremony was held at the Prime Minister's Office last week.
