Kaltacks primed for Vanuatu bid

In the village of Erakor in Vanuatu lives a family of footballers primed and ready to assist the Vanuatu national team in its bid for regional supremacy at the OFC Nations Cup this week.

Brian, Jean and Tony have all represented Vanuatu at various levels, but OFC's most prestigious international competition is the first time the trio will turn out together at senior level.

While Brian has previously played for Erakor Golden Star, their village club, he is currently with Solomon Warriors based in Honiara, while both Tony and Jean continue to ply their trade for their childhood side.

"We are very happy and proud to play for Vanuatu in the OFC Nations Cup," the elder Kaltack Brian says.

"I saluted my two cousin brothers, Jean and Tony, for making it into the squad and we and we will do our best to make the people of Vanuatu happy.

"We know that our pool is every difficult but we will do our best."

Jean has turned out at almost every possible level for Vanuatu - U-17, U-20, U-23 and senior level, and will be a key targetman for Vanuatu throughout the tournament.

Joining him in attack will be Tony, who was recently awarded top scorer in the Port Vila Football Association Cup with his tally of 14 goals.

Vanuatu get their campaign underway on Saturday 28 May against Solomon Islands at 7pm.
