The Vanuatu government of Prime Minister Sato Kilman has seen changes taking place this afternoon following the appointment of the president of the Vanuatu Progressive Development Party, Robert Bohn as new Minister for Justice and Community Services.

Bohn replaces MP for Torba, Dunstan Hilton who was moved to the portfolio of Trade, Tourism and ni-Vanuatu Business.

Robert Murray Bohn Sikol is a former U.S. citizen by birth and was the second naturalised citizen of Vanuatu to become a member of the Parliament of Vanuatu. Last month he was acquitted of bribery charges.

In another development, Prime Minister Kilman has named his agriculture, livestock, forestry and Horticulture minister, Christopher Emilee as his new deputy prime minister.

The appointments come as a show of strength amidst the opposition characterizing the government as a “minority beleaguered government” and calling for Prime Minister Kilman’s immediate resignation.

Incumbent Prime Minister Sato Kilman told his cabinet members and supporters at the swearing in ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office, the government he is leading is here to stay till the next election.

He encouraged his cabinet members to respect and remain committed to the oath of allegiance they took when elected as members of parliament and as ministers of state, which is to serve the people of Vanuatu.

A similar sentiment was expressed yesterday in a private meeting held by Kilman, his cabinet ministers and director generals of the ministries. The meeting was held at the Melanesian Hotel in Port Vila.
