Pathologist to determine cause of boxer's death

The Vanuatu Police Force (VPF) Media Center said a middle age person from Paama, used a stone to assault the country’s boxing icon Philip Kating who died on Sunday.

At around 1pm on Sunday, 17 January 2016, police received a report on the incident which occurred at Malapoa Estate Area, Port Vila.

Police say the cause of the incident is believed to be related to a matrimonial matter.

Mr. Kating was taken to Vila Central Hospital (VCH) but he was later pronounced death following the injuries he sustained.

Police arrested the suspect involved in the incident on the same day and detained him in Police custody.

The matter is under investigation and arrangements are underway for a pathologist to determine the cause of his death.

Meanwhile the VPF is appealing to the families of the deceased that the case is currently under police investigation and it is seeking assistance from the chiefs and people in the respective communities, calling for calm until the process is completed and his body can be laid to rest.
