Slight increase in CPI in Dec 2015

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of December 2015 indicated a slightly increase of (0.1 %). Port Vila increased by (0.1%) and Luganvillie index increased by (0.6%) compared to the previous quarter.

The following expenditure groups contributed to the increase in the CPI were: Transport (+2.2%), Housing Utilities (+1.0%), Clothing and Footwear (+0.5%), Drinks and Tobacco (+0.3%), Health (+0.1%). Communication, Housing Supplies and Education contribute (0.0%) did not show any impact on this changes, however, Miscellaneous and Food showed a slight decrease of (-0.8%) and (-0.4%) respectively.

The main contributor to this movement was due to the increase in price movements of international airline tickets in both Port Vila and Luganvillie to other destination, Electricity and Water supply charges in Port Vila, Firewood cost in Luganvillie.

However, Personal accessories and Toiletries, in both region, Fruits and Vegetables in Port Vila Market shows decrease in price movement.
