Erakor Golden Star qualify for Champions League

Port Vila Football new champions, Erakor Golden Star FC wrote another football story in Vanuatu yesterday after they beat Ifira Black Bird 4-0 and qualified to play in their first OFC Champions League competition in 2017.

The long wait is over and their dreams came through when Tony Kaltack hit two beautiful goals against Ifira Black Bird and one each from Bernard Daniel and Jacky Rueben.

Erakor set up a new story for Port Vila Football to qualify for Champions League after Amicale and Tafea dominated for the last 15 years.

Amicale beat Tafea 3-2 in the earlier match on Saturday (yesterday) but Erakor Golden Star were so good, controlling most of the areas in the field and smashed neighbor Ifira Black Bird 4-0 to seal their spot in the OFC competition.

This means this year Vanuatu Football has two new clubs to represent Vanuatu in the OFC Champions League, Malampa Revivfors FC of Luganville, Santo and Erakor Golden Star of Port Vila.

Erakor Golden Star FC new coach Etienne Mermer also wrote his own new story after he helped Erakor qualify for the Champions League for the first time.

Etienne helped Vanuatu qualify to play in the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2017 in Korea in September this year.

Hundreds of Erakor fans celebrated their team’s victory on Saturday at Erakor Village.

Erakor hard working captain, Brian Kaltack thanked his players for their outstanding performance in this year’s competition and also thanked their faithful supporters.

Erakor Golden Star is the only club to win three football competitions in the Port Vila Football Association this year 2016.

Vanuatu Spirit is the main sponsor of the winning cup of the Top Four Super League 2016.
