Nadal surprised to make Australian Open final

However, endless hours of hard work and the strong-willed belief of a champion means the Spaniard will be contesting a sixth Australian Open final - 13 years after winning his first and only title at the Melbourne slam.

Nadal started the season after missing a chunk of the 2021 tour due to a lingering foot injury that forced him to skip Wimbledon, the Olympics and the U.S. Open among other events and raised doubts if he would ever come back to the court.

Wallabies in line to receive bonus for making Rugby World Cup final

The team will reportedly pocket $25,000 each should they win a semi-final and qualify for the World Cup final and stand to gain $100,000 each if they manage to win the Webb Ellis Cup for the first time since 1999.

Under the current collective bargaining agreement, Wallabies players receive a $10,000 match payment if they are nationally contracted while non-Rugby AU contracted players take $12,000 a match.

Mandzukic hails final 'miracle'

Kieran Trippier and Ivan Perisic scored in regular time, before the Juventus forward lost his marker in the 109th minute to net the winner and his second goal of the tournament.

The win puts Croatia into the decider against France on Sunday and Mandzukic, 32, said his country showed great courage in the come-from-behind win.

"This is a miracle. Only great teams can be as brave as we were and fight back from a goal down against teams like England. We've played our hearts out throughout the tournament," he said.

Portugal into Euro final

The Portuguese star, who has had to soak up a lot of criticism for a lacklustre tournament by his high standards, powered in a 50th-minute header to put his side in front.

Ronaldo then had his mis-shot turned in by Nani for a second goal three minutes later, ending Wales' remarkable run at their first major finals since 1958.

The Portuguese, who had not won a single game in the tournament over 90 minutes, next meet hosts France or Germany, who play their semi-final tomorrow.
