Windows 10 to be retired in 2025, as new OS unveils

When Windows 10 was launched, Microsoft said it was intended to be the final version of the operating system.

But from 14 October 2025, there will be no new updates or security fixes for either the Home or Pro versions.

And Microsoft says its successor will represent one of the "most significant updates" to the OS in the past decade.

Its predecessor, Windows 7, was retired in 2020, although businesses could pay Microsoft to continue receiving updates for Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise.

Twitter gets an unofficial messenger app

Direct Messenger for iOS is a Twitter-flavoured version of Facebook Messenger, allowing users to DM in peace without distractions from their timeline.

As this is not an official app from Twitter, there are a few compatibility issues since the microblogging giant imposes API restrictions on third-party developers.

Text pings back and forth just fine, but web users who receive animated emoji sent from the app will see only a static symbol, while images are converted into web links.

The Twitter-owned video network has added a Shazam-like song tagging feature and a tool for creating seamless audio loops.

Exclusive to iOS for the time being, Snap to Beat helps Viners create "perfect" or "seamless loops" that continuously play without glitching.

"Music has been part of Vine's culture since the beginning," said the Vine team in a blog post.
