Umaga set to play for England

Umaga, the son of Mike and nephew of Tana Umaga, got his first call up to the England senior side in January, but hasn't played.

First-five Joe Simmonds was man of the match in Exeter's Champions Cup victory over Racing 92 last week and had another perfect day with the boot in the weekend's Premiership final win over Wasps.

However, coach Eddie Jones has included uncapped Wasps number 10 Umaga as backup to Owen Farrell, with George Ford absent through injury.

Jones included 22 players involved in Japan, but many of the absentees are carrying injuries, including No.8 Billy Vunipola, who broke his arm for the fourth time on Sunday.

Prop Dan Cole, who had a torrid time in the final defeat by South Africa, was an expected omission, while versatile back Jack Nowell was also missing.

Of the uncapped group, Tom Dunn, Ben Earl and Ollie Thorley have been involved in previous squads, while Fraser Dingwall, George Furbank, Alex Moon, Will Stuart and Jacob Umaga are called up for the first time.

Jacob Umaga destined for bright future in England, says ex-All Black Malakai Fekitoa

Former All Black midfielder Fekitoa, in his first season at the English club, has credited the 21-year-old first-five for transforming Wasps' attack in the absence of of another ex-Kiwi international, Lima Sopoaga, due to illness.

Sopoaga is now back in contention for selection but has struggled to make an impact since signing with Wasps in 2017 and Umaga's impressive form will only have put more pressure on the 18-test All Black.

Jacob Umaga to start for England

RNZ reports Jacob Umaga, who is the son of Tana's brother Mike, has previously played for England at under 18 level.

The Wasps first five has been named to start for England under 20's against Wales this weekend.

The 18-year-old Umaga came on as a replacement at centre against France last weekend and recently made his senior debut at fly half for Wasps in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

Jacob Umaga was born in England.
