The Electoral Office has announced that the Luganville Municipal Council (LMC) election date is Tuesday September 17, 2019.
The 2019 LMC Election Logistical Arrangements have been finalized.
The starting date for the lodging of Candidature Application Forms and Proxy Application Forms is 1st of August 2019, and the deadline for 2019 LMC Registration update 5th of August.
The closing date for the lodging of Candidature Application Forms is 4:30pm on the 14th of August 2019.
The publication of names of candidates qualified to contest the LMC election will take place on the 30th of August.
Campaign will commence on the 30th of August and will close at 12 midnight 14th of September.
The closing of Proxy Application Forms including Duplicate cards is 4:30pm on the 3rd of September before Polling Day on the 17th of September.
A person shall be eligible to stand as a candidate for election to a municipal council if he: is a citizen of Vanuatu; is registered as an elector in the municipality in which he is a candidate; is not disqualified from voting; has not received a sentence including a suspended of a term or terms of imprisonment which has not ended; is not bankrupt; and has attained 21 years of age.
In addition, a person may only contest as a candidate in a Municipal election, in a ward in which he or she resides and is registered.
