UNESCO, Vanuatu Education Minister meet in Port Vila

A meeting between the Director of Office and UNESCO Representative to the Pacific States, Ms Nisha and the Minister of Education and Training of Vanuatu, Jean Pierre Nirua, took place in Port Vila today.

Nirua is also the Chairperson of the country's National Commission for UNESCO.

During the meeting several topics were covered, including, the projection of the Cluster Office's work from 2018-22, interregional meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO to be held in Kenya in June 2018, the Pacific's representation in the UNESCO’s Executive Board, upcoming Forum Education Ministers' meeting, which is assisted by UNESCO in Nauru in May 2018, and the UN and UNESCO reforms.

A statement said Nirua appreciated the assistance received from the UNESCO, including its Participation Programme, the efforts to align the Cluster Office's planning with the National Development Plan and the discussions that UNESCO and the National Commission undertook in order to plan the activities for 2018-19.

The Minister highlighted the important role that the National Commissions of UNESCO have in national ownership, coordination and facilitation of UNESCO's work in their county.
