Vanuatu’s Tafea Province teachers receive long service letters

The Vanuatu Teachers Service Commission has presented permanent letters of long service to 160 teachers of Tafea Province.

Minister for Education Jean Pierre Nirua commended the teachers for their significant role as educators throughout the nation and he called for recognition and respect to be given and maintained to teachers at all times.

The event at Lamenu Stadium in Tanna coincided with celebrations to commemorate World Teachers Day on 5 October.

October 5 is World Teachers Day and to celebrate this Day, the UNESCO and Education International (EI) mounts a campaign each year to help give the world better understanding of teachers and the role they play in the development of students and society.

n this year’s celebration they partner with the private sector such as media organisations to achieve this purpose.

This year's theme is 'Young Teachers: The future of the Profession'. The day provides the occasion to celebrate the profession of teaching, to acknowledge the achievements.

According to the Teaching Service Commission 2018 report, there are 1,306 teachers in the country.
