Vanuatu Ministry of Health develops geospatial capacity

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has expanded its geospatial capacity to aid in the planning, coordination and monitoring of its activities.

The Director General (DG) of the MoH, George Taleo, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Director of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), Abraham Nasak, DG for the Ministry of Lands, Author Faerua, and a Statistics Officer, Jimmy Tamkela, on Monday to establish geospatial data cooperation.

MoH said the agreement will foster information sharing between the government bodies to create better information products that support decision making about public services.

“It will assist the MoH in determining the most optimal location of health resources, including human resources and facilities.

“The signing is in line with the objectives of the new National Geospatial Data Policy (NGDP), currently developed by the Ministry of Lands & Natural Resources and the GIS User Group.

“NGDP namely aims to provide an enabling environment for the management, access, distribution and use of spatial data (data or information that identifies the geographic location of features and boundaries on Earth) throughout Vanuatu, and is planned to be finalized in the end of 2019.”
