Vanuatu National Statistics Office confirms corporate name change

The Vanuatu National Statistics Office has confirmed its corporate name change to the Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics.

A statement said this modification comes after the Statistics Bill, which was approved by Parliament on May 23, 2022. On Friday, June 17, 2022, the Statistics Act No. 7 of 2022 was published in the Official Gazette.

The new name was complimented with a new logo, both have been officially unveiled by Minister responsible for the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management, John Salong, recently in Sola, Vanua Lava, TORBA Province.

The unveiling coincides with the launch of the newly built MFEM provincial office on 9th of December 2022.

The MFEM stated that some features of the new Statistics Act No. 7 of 2022 are formalities, such as the change from an office to a bureau.

“For example, the Director’s title changes from Government Statistician to Chief Statistician under the new Act. These changes will bring about a new image for the office, including a new logo, stamp, letterhead, and more,” the MFEM stated.

“The new Act sets out a comprehensive legislative scheme for the collection, production, analysis and publication of statistics in Vanuatu. The new law replaces the Statistics Act [CAP 183] which was repealed and combined with the repealed Census Act [CAP 71].”
