Vanuatu National Statistics Office confirms corporate name change

A statement said this modification comes after the Statistics Bill, which was approved by Parliament on May 23, 2022. On Friday, June 17, 2022, the Statistics Act No. 7 of 2022 was published in the Official Gazette.

The new name was complimented with a new logo, both have been officially unveiled by Minister responsible for the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management, John Salong, recently in Sola, Vanua Lava, TORBA Province.

The unveiling coincides with the launch of the newly built MFEM provincial office on 9th of December 2022.

Vanuatu records decrease in visitor arrivals in the last quarter

 The statistics stood at 21, 965 indicating a fall of 2% over the corresponding quarter in 2019 and also declined by 34% over the previous quarter.

This was confirmed by the Vanuatu National Statistics Office in its March quarterly report which was recently released.

The country was to have recorded over 80,000 visitors arriving in the country by both aeroplanes and ships from January to March this year.

Vanuatu 2016 Mini Census Report released publicly

The Mini Census was conducted in response to the recent disasters affecting the country, to update the list of households affected by the disasters.

A statement said the Mini Census also provided an opportunity to update basic counts of certain government programs and policies.

Vanuatu records trade deficit balance for February

According to the February statistics update from the Vanuatu National Statistics Office, the trade deficit balance was due to the value of total imports of VT 2,635 million exceeded that of total exports at VT 307 million.

There was a 46 per cent decline in domestic export earnings for February 2017 or VT 262 million over February 2016.

Kava constituted the largest export for February followed by copra then swan timber.

There was more kava exported in February this year compared to the same period last year.

Vanuatu 2016 Mini-census begins

“Information is the backbone of development”.

“Statistics compiled from the information collected in the mini-census are vital to the development of our country,” Director of Vanuatu National Statistics Office (VNSO), Simil Johnson stated.

The mini-census came about following Cyclone Pam last year.

Johnson said Pam’s destruction has distorted national framework.

The Government through the VNSO is committed to report to regional and international platforms such as the Samoa Pathway and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
