1000-years old human remains found in Vanuatu

Archaeologist, Dr Stuart Bedford and his team spent 3 weeks from October into November in 2020 carrying out research in the southern part of the island.

Dr Bedford said, “We have found evidence of occupation going back 2000 years.”

Foremen constructing a chiefs nakamal found the human remains and contacted Dr Bedford and his team.

Dr Bedford describes the three shallow graves as three different holes aligned east to west.

“All the bodies lying on their backs with their arms at their sides.”

Native and Mele win Vanuatu Rugby Union’s Labour 7s

Natives defeated Ifira in the men’s final while Mele also defeated Ifira in the women’s division.

Natives men’s and Mele women’s rugby 7s teams won the Labour Day tourney at Erakor field over the weekend.

Police finished third place in the men’s division while Tanvasoko took third place in the women’s division.

Island Warriors finished in fourth place.

Felie of Mele women’s rugby club was awarded the best player for the women’s while Villy Kalsarap was awarded the fair play award.

Natives team captain Toara was the best male player for the tournament.

Vanuatu’s Ifira wins MSG Rugby Championship title

The side defeated USP XV 17-5 in the final on Wednesday.

The two teams were locked 0-0 at halftime before battling it out in the second half of the match.

USP scored the first try after a drive from the forwards and failed with the conversion.

Ifira fought back and scored three consecutive tries and were only successful with one conversion to seal the victory.

Ovins won the women’s final against Warriors after scoring the winning try in the extra.

The match was locked nil-all draw at fulltime.
