Over 70 arrested during Operation Noel in Vanuatu

Of all the alleged offenders, 41 are unemployed and aged between 20 to 48 years.

Police confirmed that they were arrested for offences such as intentional assault, domestic violence, possessions of illegal drugs, abusive language, threat to kill, criminal trespass, theft, idle and disorderly behaviour, obstructing Police officer on duty and intentional homicide.

“30 suspects were detained for drug cases from the age of 19 to 35 years old.”

Vanuatu Police launches Operation Noel for festive season

Police Commissioner, Robson Iavro has reminded all his officers to be vigilant during the season.

He said, “If there are police presence out on the streets, this would discourage members of the public to drink and drive.”

“It is also during this time of the year when a lot of people are travelling to the islands for vacations, therefore, people tend to take advantage of this opportunity to conduct criminal activities, stealing from properties, in particular.”

The police operation was launched on Friday.

Vanuatu Police enforces Operation Noel

The Acting Commissioner, Colonel Robson Iavro activated the operation last week in the presence of senior ranking officers within the respective elements of the Force.

Acting Commissioner Iavro reiterated the purpose of Operation Noel, which is to ensure families enjoy a peaceful and safe Christmas celebration.

The operation began Wednesday and will continue in the coming days into welcoming the New Year of 2021.

Members of the Force will be deployed to the islands if their presence is required.
