Vanuatu rounds up Queen’s Baton relay journey

The journey accommodated all the baton bearers who took part in the Queen’s Baton Relay in the last three days.

Prime Minister Bob Loughman said, “The Queen placed inside the baton a message to the Commonwealth which will be delivered at the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.”

“I am proud that Vanuatu will once more be represented at this major, international sporting event and send my congratulations and best wishes to our athletes as they approach the qualifying stages for the games.”

Queen’s Baton brings together students in Vanuatu

The event was held at the Mele Beach Millennium Park.

In a press release, Team Vanuatu chef du mission, Julia King said the event’s significance is to inspire youths and students to become part of Team Vanuatu for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.

The event brought together students from seven schools who enjoyed beach sport activities throughout the morning. Activities included, beach soccer, beach volleyball, aquatics and few more.

Vanuatu’s Mele village hosts Queen’s Baton

The relay commenced at the Mele Maat School and passed through 27 stations before ending at the Temitini Hill base.

Team Vanuatu chef du Mission to the 2022 Commonwealth games, Julia Kings said the community is honoured to welcome the Queens baton and are very happy and excited as well.

“It was exciting for kids, parents and elders, who looked colorful within the streets chanting and cheering on each baton bearers.”

Vanuatu to host Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton

The baton will be in the country next week.

The Queen’s Baton Relay in Vanuatu for 2021 is organised by Chef De Mission for Birmingham 2022, Gloria King.

King is currently serving her second term on the VASANOC Board as Chair for Women in Sports.

The Relay is designed to convey a message from the Queen to the athletes of the Commonwealth.

It will visit every one of the 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth including Vanuatu.

The baton will arrive in Vanuatu on Monday and depart on Thursday.
