Vanuatu puts focus on traditional knowledge at COP 22

RNZ reports the Vanuatu Government's Sam Mike Waiwai made a presentation on the topic at a two-day conference which focused on indigenous knowledge and climate change.

UNESCO and the French National Centre for Scientific Research and other international bodies ran the event.

Vanuatu's Climate Change Minister, Ham Lini, is at the conference and will present a statement there.

COP 22, which comes just after the Paris Agreement has been put into force, runs until the end of next week.

     

Vanuatu supports rights of indigenous people sharing their traditional knowledge to tackle climate change

It’s Minister for Climate Change, Jerome Ludvaune promised indigenous peoples from the Pacific and around the globe present at the Pacific side event at COP21 Thursday that his government will uphold and support the rights of indigenous people in sharing their traditional knowledge to address climate change.

Minister Ludvaune went a step further to reveal that Vanuatu supports Articles 2 & 4 of the proposed Paris Agreement to recognise indigenous peoples in communities and their traditional knowledge.
