Vanuatu loses visa-free access to UK

All visitors from Vanuatu, Timor-Leste, Dominica, Honduras and Namibia now need a visa.

Britain's Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, said any decision to change a visa regime is not taken lightly.

"Careful consideration of Dominica's and Vanuatu's operation of a citizenship-by-investment scheme has shown clear and evident abuse of the scheme, including the granting of citizenship to individuals known to pose a risk to the UK," she said.

Covid testing will not lead to penalties for invalid visa holders - NZ govt

Hundreds of seasonal workers have been stranded in New Zealand over recent months, some with expiring visas.

Pacific leaders had already raised concern about those with uncertain immigration status missing out on assistance or healthcare because of fear of being discovered.

However the minister, Chris Hipkins, encouraged them to get tested for Covid-19 if they needed to.

"We will not use the information collected through the Covid-19 testing process for other purposes, including for immigration purposes," Mr Hipkins said.

Vanuatu chicken farmer challenges visa denial over gun

Chico Farm's Kenneth Thode was told in June that his visa had been cancelled but he said he was challenging that decision.

Thode was told he had threatened staff and neighbours with a rifle which caused concern among the people of Vanuatu.

He said the issue seemed to be around an incident involving a firearm last year when he tried to chastise staff over theft and growing marijuana on the farm.

The agriculture department says under Vanuatu laws, it is illegal for foreigners to be employed and the penalty of the breach of visa conditions is just over USD 2,000.
