Vanuatu farmers learn new farming techniques

More than 70 farmers from across Vanuatu are attending a vegetable cultivation technology training in Port Vila.

The training was officially opened by the Acting Director General of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries Forestry and Biosecurity (MALLFB) and Director for Fisheries Department, William Naviti on Monday.

"This is an opportunity for capacity building of officers and farmers. The Government of Vanuatu values the cooperation between Vanuatu and China. The training will be delivered by experts from Longping High Tech. The training will enable farmers to learn new farming techniques that are resilient to Climate Change."

The productive sector in Vanuatu is one of the main priorities of the government today. Therefore "The government has developed a National Agriculture Sector Policy and the Fruits and Vegetable Strategy as a roadmap to strengthen the vegetable industry for Vanuatu to foster more impact on people's livelihood to increase production to strengthen rural economy," Acting Director for DARD,” Mark Vurobaravu said.

Vice President of Yuan Longping High Tech said, "We are happy to share our technology to Vanuatu and other Pacific Island Countries. We have organised 200 international training program and have cultivated more than 10,000 agriculture training for developing countries.

"Longping High Tech has established a long-term friendship with Vanuatu.

The farmers are encouraged to use what they will learn to make good use of the resources they have to adapt to the changing environment and climate and be able to consistently produce more vegetables for domestic and export demand.
