Nandiutu school benefits from new water tanks

Students at Nandiutu Bilingual Junior Secondary School (NBJSS) on Malo Island in Vanuatu will no longer face problems getting regular water supplies.

Three new water tanks with a total capacity of 26,000 litres were commissioned at the school recently.

The water tanks are funded by the government of New Zealand.

According to the school Principal Mr Joel Daniels, the aim of the New Zealand Scheme application is because it complies with the NBJSS strategic plan for 2014-2018. It also complies with certain school policies such as risk management, student welfare and student health and safety.

“The water project also meets the Uremaranda Education and Training forum resolution while at the same time meets the institution’s Annual Business Plan of 2016,” Daniels said.

“Water has been a long-time need to the isolated institution and the surrounding communities. We therefore now have hope and assurance to sustainable provision of water and sustainable learning process, solve climatic problems, and at the same time meet the United Nations Development goal of Clean Water, Sanitation and hygiene,” he said.

Members of the community helped with construction of slabs for the water tanks according to a report by the community’s media officer, Vourie Molivakoro.
