Melanesia tops Oceania Cup

The team comprised athletes from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Norfolk Island.

The competition pitted athletes from the three regions in Oceania with Melanesia garnering the most points with 273 points, followed by Polynesia in second with 196; Australia in third with 190; Micronesia in fourth with 163; and the host nation finished fifth with 138.

Melanesian states urged to move towards 'blue economy'

A new report by the World Wildlife Fund and partners, Reviving Melanesia's Ocean Economy: The Case for Action, tracks how crucial the ocean is to Melanesia's economy and future prosperity.

According to RNZ, the WWF's Jackie Thomas said the report will be given to all Melanesia's governments, who she hoped will make good on various commitments they had already made to green growth.

She said the NGO will be encouraging the governments to invest at the national level and put resources into implementing the report's recommendations.

Melanesian airlines formalise deal

Solomon Islands' national carrier Solomon Airlines, Air Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea's Air Niugini have officially validated a tripartite agreement at the bi-annual Association of South Pacific Airlines meeting, taking place in Brisbane.
