Vanuatu Mini Games announce sponsors

Digicel Vanuatu is the official sponsor of the Mini Games, with Azure Pure Water confirmed as a platinum sponsor and six companies: Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu, ODC Computer Consultants, Pacific Energy - Société de Services Pétroliers - Vanuatu, FR8/DHL Logistics, Hertz Vanuatu and Air Vanuatu, as the gold sponsors.

RNZ reports the eight companies represent 60 percent of the target number of sponsors for the Games.

Vanuatu govt finally puts through Games legislation

Last week the Games Council said active disruptions from within the government were threatening the country's ability to host the Games and sponsorship announcements were postponed after the government withheld funding.

But CEO Clint Flood said the government has confirmed their commitment through legislative changes which had been waiting to be passed by Parliament for four years.

Mini Games officials hope to speed up preparations

RNZ reports Van2017 officials met with the representatives from the Pacific Games Council and the 13 national sporting federations taking part in the Mini Games in Port Vila last week to hear more about plans for the sports programme at the Games next December.

CEO Clint Flood said they needed to make sure that on the day, the teams from all the countries would be able to compete and do their best.

"It's the most important job we have," said Flood.

Mini Games organisers back December start date

Construction work has yet to begin on the main Korman site in Port Vila, 10 months after Cyclone Pam caused widespread damage.

The CEO of the 2017 Mini Games, Joe Carlo says everything has been in a holding pattern until the outcome of Friday's snap election is made clear.
