Parliament ready to elect new Speaker and new Prime Minister today

The sitting arrangement inside parliament has indicated the Unity Front political grouping has the majority of 32 MPs while the caretaker government side has 20.

Experience has seen changes taking place just before voting takes place but so far there is no evidence to suggest that.

Meanwhile, leaked documents from the Unity Front Political grouping on the lineup of ministerial portfolio sharing is as such:

  1. Prime Minister and Minister for Police Service – Charlot Salwai (RMC).

New Vanuatu government to face further instability - Natuman

While final results from Friday's snap election are yet to be confirmed, preliminary results suggest there will be a record ten independent MPs in the 52-seat house, and 17 political parties - although eight of these have just one MP.

Joe Natuman, whose Vanua'aku Pati is part of the United Front for Change bloc that hopes to form the government, says no party will be able to form a solid majority on current results.

Another fragmented parliament for Vanuatu

However, a bloc with some of the bigger parties has emerged as likely front-runner to form a coalition government.

While final results from Friday's snap election are yet to be confirmed, it's clear that it will take another patchwork coalition to form government.
