Push to teach Vanuatu children about independence struggle

Mr Tallis made the call after visiting the grave of one of the independence pioneers, Alexi Yolou, who was shot and killed in Lowanatom village on Tanna Island during the struggle 37 years ago.

The head of state paid tribute to all those who lost their lives saying it was a result of their sacrifice that the people of Vanuatu enjoy freedom today.

He arrived in style at Lenakel Laminu stadium on a wooden chair carried by Tanna men who were surrounded by over 200 custom dancers.
