MoU to grow agricultural trade between Pacific Island Countries and Australia

Signed 6 October by Australian Chief Plant Protection Officer, Gabrielle Vivian-Smith and DT Global Asia Pacific Managing Director, Frank Maiolo the MoU will strengthen the partnership between the department and DT Global through the Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access Program (PHAMA Plus) program.

The PHAMA Plus program is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the New Zealand Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Vanuatu kava farmers undertake management training

The Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access Plus Programme (PHAMA Plus) – supported by Australia and New Zealand – has partnered with Vanuatu

Training on pruning and nursery management will be offered to agents and key farmers to increase noble kava production.

They will also learn planting techniques, good agricultural practices and climate smart agriculture; village nursery development and management; and pruning methods to produce planting materials.

Partnership to boost Vanuatu kava quality and access to markets

South Seas Commodities (SSC) has partnered with the Australia and New Zealand supported Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access (PHAMA) Plus Program to improve quality management systems of the production and processing of its kava products. 

Sealing the deal, SSC Director Michael Louze said the partnership supports their commitment to improving product quality and ensuring food safety by obtaining a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification.
