BSP Takes Over Westpac Operations in Vanuatu

This follows BSP purchasing Westpac operations in Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga in July 2015, Solomon Islands at the end of October 2015 and the finalisation of the agreement with Westpac to purchase its businesses in those countries.

BSP Group chief executive, Robin Fleming, reiterated this acquisition is aligned to BSPs’ Pacific based expansion strategy, which has been maintained since 2006.

PM Salwai calls for stronger commitment to manage tuna resource

Prime Minister Charlot Salwai Tabimasmas made the comment at the opening of the 13th Ministerial Meeting of the FFA in Port Vila last night.

He said the Pacific Ocean has and will continue to play an important role in the future state of play and of international negotiations, particularly for its fish and more specifically, albeit highly migratory, last-remaining healthy tuna stocks.

Mr. Salwai said tuna and tuna fisheries continue to play an important role in the economy of FFA member countries.

Vanuatu champions Amicale FC have previously criticised the $NZ10,000 entry fee imposed on teams and the decision to play the tournament in one central location, denying club's the chance to play at home and boost revenue.

RNZI reports from next year, a record 16 teams will take part in the group stage, in four groups being contested at four different venues, with the semis and final to be played home and away.

Amicale technical director Anthony Pisano said the chance to play in front of their home supporters is well overdue.

Mr Chadrack said the tuna fisheries resource, which is the only largest natural resources that Vanuatu has with a total estimate catch of around 10,000 to 15,000 tonnes of fish per year on average, is a lot of fish to support processing industry locally.
