Vanuatu national security consultations held in Port Vila

Through the Vanuatu Police Force and the Ministry of Internal Affairs aim to develop the first ever NS (National security) consultation inclining with the people’s plan of the national sustainable development plan.

“Today we are taking a first step to ensure that we address our national security, the importance of National Security is huge, as national security is intimately linked to economic stability, resource efficiency, good governance and social cohesion” said the Minister of internal affairs, Andrew Napuat.

Vanuatu rugby league beaten by Hungary

Thursday's match was Vanuatu's first of the tournament while Hungary had already had a victory over Greece.

The extra time on the field showed early on with the Hungarians taking a 12-0 lead before the Melanesian side gained some rhythm and found themselves in front late in the game.

However Hungary scored last, eventually winning 18-13.

Vanuatu plays Greece in their last pool match on Sunday.

In Thursday's other game, Niue defeated Malta 26-16 and will now play the Philippines on Sunday with the hope of making the cup semis.

Vanuatu team will benefit from Youth Olympics, Chef de Mission

22 athletes and eight officials make up the team which is in Buenos Aires for the 10 day event.

Vanuatu will compete against 4000 athletes aged 15-18 from over 200 countries.

Chef de Mission, Yannick Jacobe, said the Youth Olympics would teach the athletes a lot.

"Those youth events are really important for us because it is showing the way to go for the athletes and what are the top level players," he said.

New UN Resident Coordinator ready to take up role in the Pacific

Mr Samarasinha will also be presenting his credentials to the heads of states in the respective countries.

He said he was grateful for the opportunity to meet Pacific leaders at the Pacific Islands Forum summit in Nauru last month.

He said it was the chance to discuss priorities with the leaders and how the UN can deal with them.

He hopes to take something tangible back to the countries as well as have conversations with as many people as possible including representatives of civil society and the media.

Vanuatu to launch Tingting Rod Sefti Campaign

The Tingting Rod Sefti campaign is part of the Port Vila Urban Development Project (PVUDP) and aims to educate drivers and pedestrians about the use of Port Vila’s new bus stops, footpaths, road signs and road line markings.

Tingting Rod Sefti is a partnership between the Government of Vanuatu with the Shefa Port Vila Public Land Transport Association, the Public Land Transport Authority, Port Vila Municipal Council Traffic Wardens, the Vanuatu Police Force, and media organisations to encourage everyone to “Tingting Rod Sefti” on Port Vila’s roads.

Concerns about increase in student sexual abuse cases in Vanuatu

Obed says the issue is not only undermining the concerned students, but it is an abuse of the good profession.

“I am requesting parents, community leaders and the general public to take a proactive measure to encourage children, especially girls, to consider their education as a prime investment for the good of this nation”

Obed also stressed that through the existence of the Child Protection Policy, parents and community leaders are encouraged to report cases of child abuse, especially sexual abuse to authorities so that perpetrators are prosecuted.

VCC chairperson launches book on humanitarian action

The book also features putting local first, how to measure local leadership and the level of ownership.
