ICC to bid for sport's inclusion in Los Angeles 2028

  The ICC says its "primary target" is being added to the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

It would end a 128-year wait for the sport to be included, following its only previous appearance in the 1900 Games in Paris.

The sport will feature as a women's event in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

ICC chair Greg Barclay says the "sport is united behind this bid" and that the Olympics are part of cricket's "long-term future".

"We have more than a billion fans globally and almost 90 per cent of them want to see cricket at the Olympics," said Barclay.

Fiji’s Cheyenne Rova finished third in Women’s 50 metres freestyle heats

Rova competed in the women’s 50 meters freestyle last night.

She made a perfect start and hung on to for a third-place finish in her Olympics debut.

Rova clocked a time of 27.11 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Pacific’s fastest man Banuve Tabakaucoro will be in action today.

Tabakaucoro will be running in heat two of the men’s 100 meters and the first three from the heat will qualify for the next round.

     

Tokyo Olympics: Naomi Osaka & Novak Djokovic reach third round

Second seed Osaka, the favourite for the gold medal following world number one Ashleigh Barty's first-round exit, beat the Swiss 6-3 6-2.

Osaka will face Marketa Vondrousova, who beat Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-1 6-2, for a quarter-final spot.

World number one Novak Djokovic beat Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4 6-3.

Djokovic is bidding for a first Olympic gold medal after winning bronze in Beijing 2008.

Teariki Numa of Papua New Guinea and Eroni Leilua of Samoa join sailors from around the world taking to the waters for the third and fourth races of the Sailing - Men's Radial Laser event.

It's been 28 years since PNG have been seen sailing at the Olympics - a record held by Te Ariki Numa's father, Graham Numa, who represented the nation in windsurfing at Seoul in 1988 and Barcelona in 1992.

France stun reigning champions USA to end 25-game win streak

Rii was placed sixth with a time of 8.00.98 minutes – just over 1.01 minute behind the winner from Greece, Ntouskos Stefanos, who clocked 6.59.49 minutes.
