US to lift travel ban for fully jabbed on 8 November

Under new rules announced by the White House, vaccinated people who have had a negative test in the 72 hours before travelling will be allowed to enter.

The move marks the end of the tough restrictions that have been imposed on travellers since early last year.

"This policy is guided by public health, stringent and consistent," a White House spokesman said.

The new rules will apply to Schengen countries - a group of 26 European nations - as well as the UK, Brazil, China, India, Iran, Ireland, and South Africa.

Australia suspends travel from India

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced this afternoon that all flights from India to Australia would be temporarily halted, as the India continues to deal with a record-breaking Covid-19 outbreak that has plunged its medical system into chaos.

The pause which includes repatriation flights into the Howard Springs facility near Darwin, will last until 15 May and the decision will be reviewed before then.

Morrison said indirect flights through other cities like Doha, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur had been paused by their respective governments.

Efate outbound travel ban lifted

The clearance to travel is effective from today after the Ministry of Health completed its risk assessment to Covid-19 community transmission related to a Filipino national.

Director National Disaster Management Office, Abraham Nasak said the primary contacts results were all negative and so there is no threat or chance of them transmitting the Covid-19 virus.

“Therefore people outbound travel by sea and air from Efate and its offshore islands can begin travel from Thursday, 22 April 2021.”

Travels in and out of Vanuatu's Maewo Island will be banned as of April 24

Densly Rasa, South Maewo, Area Administrator told Radio Vanuatu’s Vois Blong Penama Province Program that this is the outcome of a meeting on COVID-19 prevention measures for the island, that took place last week at Betarara, organized by the Mathamal Tagaro, the highest governing body of the island.

Mr Rasa said people are now banned from travelling from one village to another.

All travel from Europe to US suspended for 30 days

But he said the "strong but necessary" restrictions would not apply to the UK, where 460 cases of the virus have now been confirmed.

There are 1135 confirmed cases of the virus across the US, with 38 deaths.

"To keep new cases from entering our shores, we will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days," Trump said.

"The new rules will go into effect Friday at midnight," he added.

"We are marshalling the full power of the federal government and the private sector to protect the American people," he said.

Maika Sivo wants travel ban lifted despite indecent assault charge

Having spent Sunday night in a jail cell, Sivo fronted Nadi Magistrate Court on Monday morning and was granted bail on a bond of $500 following an incident at a luxury Nadi resort late on Boxing Day in which he allegedly tugged a waitress' dress.

Magistrate Peni Dalituicama also placed a stop travel order on the 26-year-old, telling him he would have to face court again on January 7 to enter a plea — the day after he is due to start training with the Eels in preparation for the 2020 season.

Trump's 2.0 travel ban blocked by Hawaii court

The decision means that travellers from the six Muslim-majority countries covered by the ban will still be able to travel to the US.

US District Judge Derrick Watson put an emergency stop to the new order in response to a lawsuit filed by the state of Hawaii, which argued the order discriminated against Muslims in violation of the constitution.

In a court document, it said it intends to seek a temporary restraining order against Donald Trump's new executive order restricting travel from six Muslim-majority countries.

The Trump administration this week issued the new executive order, replacing an earlier, more-sweeping one that was successfully challenged in court by the state of Washington.

The new order, will keep a 90-day ban on travel to the United States by citizens of six Muslim-majority nations: Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

New Trump travel ban delayed until next week, White House says

President Trump had said the executive order would be announced this week, but White House officials have now told reporters it is being delayed.

The original order banned refugees and immigrants from seven mostly Muslim countries from entering the US.

The order sparked mass protests and confusion at airports, and US courts have temporarily blocked the ban.

Trump vows to win travel ban court fight

In a press conference with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, Mr Trump also promised to move "rapidly" to introduce "additional security" steps for the US next week.

He spoke as Virginia state lawyers argued in court that his policy "resulted from animus toward Muslims".

And on Thursday, an appeals court said the administration failed to offer "any evidence" to justify the measure.

But the seven-nation ban has not been struck down; it is just in limbo while courts debate its legality.
