Vanuatu govt could budget for outstanding retirement pay

RNZI reports Finance Minister Gaeton Pikioune is reported making the statement to teachers at Malapoa College in Port Vila.

Many former teachers, who were members of the Teachers' Union or the Teachers' Association, are still waiting for outstanding salaries and retirement entitlements to be settled.

     

Vanuatu Govt blames Opposition for delay tactics to prolong setup of parliamentary committees

The blame was levelled at Opposition Leader, Ishmael Kalsakau by the chairman of the Political Reform Program and Minister for Lands, Ralph Regenvanu.

In the recent parliament session, a total of eight motions were passed by parliament to establish eight parliamentary committees including the Political Reform Program Committee and the President’s advisory Committee.

Another large earthquake strikes Vanuatu's north

RNZI reports the United States Geological Service said the earthquake struck 109 kilometres west of Sola, in Torba province, at a depth of 33 kilometres.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said the quake poses no tsunami threat.

According to RNZI, the US Geological Survey tracked the quake as occurring near the top of Vanuatu's largest island, Esperitu Santo, or 170 kilometres north-northwest of Luganville, at a depth of 10 kilometre.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue a Pacific-wide tsunami warning.
