Vanuatu chief nakamal repairs underway soon- PM

According to RNZI, he has told parliament US$260,000 dollars will be made available for the repairs.

The chiefs' nakamal was damaged during Cyclone Pam in March last year.

The nakamal is often visited by tourists wanting a glimpse of a traditional meeting house.

     

Vanuatu look overseas to fill police head post

Last week the acting commissioner, superintendent John Taleo, was removed from the post with colonel Robson Iavro put in the position temporarily.

According to RNZI, Mr Taleo had been clinging on to the post since being convicted last year of causing an accident in his official car while under the influence of alcohol.

Reduced flights crippling Vanuatu's fragile economy

According to RNZI, they want a tax exemption until temporary runway repairs are completed at the country's main international airport in Port Vila.

In January, Air New Zealand, Qantas and Virgin Australia announced that they were suspending flights to the country over safety concerns about the runway at Bauerfield International Airport.

The young Vanuatu footballers displayed a quality football against a great New Caledonia team.

Tony Kaltack looked dangerous against New Caledonia defenders and in 25 minutes he finally scored his international goal for Vanuatu senior team.

“One down and one to go.” said Moise Poida, Vanuatu national senior team head coach.

According to RNZI, the President has appointed Colonel Robson Iavro as the new Acting Commissioner.

There was no reason cited for Mr Taleo's removal.

RNZI reports under a partnership with supporters from Australia and North Ringwood Uniting Church in Melbourne, Paunangisu villagers opened a brand new toilet block, which even has its own website.

Robert Latimer, who's based in Melbourne, is involved in the Paunangisu Village Partnership and said the idea is to encourage tourists to make the village a stop-off point.
