Rebel Wilson blasted as 'hypocritical' for promoting Dubai getaway

Wilson took to Instagram to share a video at the opening of the luxury resort Atlantis The Royal, where the 'Break My Soul' singer was reportedly paid around $34 million to perform a private set.

"Atlantis The Royal is BEYond! What a weekend with BEY!" Wilson said alongside a video of the weekend's highlights.

However, Wilson has since come under fire for attending the hotel's opening, with many questioning why she was promoting a country that imposed the death penalty on those in LGBTQ+ relationships.

Vanuatu appoints first-ever Consul-General to Dubai

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade (MOFAET), Marc Ati announced the appointment today.

The appointment of a Consul-General marks another important development in Vanuatu's diplomatic and consular representation abroad.

Dubai is one of the major business hubs in the Middle East and globally renowned for attracting investments and a world leader in innovation and technology.

Dubai is also the current host of World Expo which Vanuatu is participating in with the support of the United Arab Emirates.

Vanuatu National Day commemorated at World Expo in Dubai

The day was packed with events including a flag raising ceremony, the playing of the national anthem and a fabulous cultural performance which thrilled the many spectators.

There were reciprocal tours of the Vanuatu and UAE Pavilions by dignitaries according to a release from the Vanuatu Pavilion.

As part of the National Day on Tuesday, Expo2020 visitors were treated to a spectacular series of video projections of the Vanuatu flag moving across the gigantic dome of the Al Wasl Plaza, located in the very centre of Expo.

Vanuatu to build trade links at Expo after tourism hit by Covid-19

The country, made up of 83 islands, is one of the few in the world to be free of the coronavirus. It is currently rolling out its vaccination campaign to reopen its borders, with more than 70,000 people fully vaccinated.

Vanuatu took its first steps towards rebuilding its tourism industry this week with the first of 154 seasonal workers from the islands, including Tonga and Samoa, taking advantage of a one-way travel bubble with New Zealand.

Blast rocks Dubai port causing a large fire

There were no reported deaths or injuries and the fire is under control, authorities said. "A fire has been reported to have broken out in a container within a ship anchored in Jebel Ali Port. A Dubai Civil Defense team is working to put out the blaze," Dubai Media Office said in a tweet on their official account.

The Dubai Media Office posted a video of firefighters putting out the blaze at the port.

Vanuatu to participate at 2021 World Expo in Dubai

ACTIV, EAU DES ÎLES, Tanna Coffee, Fine Foods and Vanuatu Bijouterie and Vanuatu Handikraft have loaded up their produce in a container for the expo that is held every five years.

These local businesses were invited to participate through the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and 6 expressed interest to participate.

Facebook's Twitter and Instagram accounts hacked

The hacking group OurMine posted on the Twitter and Instagram accounts for Facebook and Messenger, writing "even Facebook is hackable".

The accounts have now been restored.

OurMine claims its attacks are an attempt to show cyber vulnerabilities. In January it hijacked over a dozen accounts for teams in the US National Football League.

The group posted a statement on Facebook's Twitter account. "Hi, we are OurMine. Well, even Facebook is hackable but at least their security is better then Twitter."

Robot police officer goes on duty in Dubai

People will be able to use it to report crimes, pay fines and get information by tapping a touchscreen on its chest.

Data collected by the robot will also be shared with the transport and traffic authorities.

The government said the aim was for 25% of the force to be robotic by 2030 but they would not replace humans.

"We are not going to replace our police officers with this tool," said Brig Khalid Al Razooqi, director general of smart services at Dubai Police.
