Two brand new public sanitation facilities opened in Port Vila

The facility at Independence Park houses toilets and hand washing basins for women and men as well as wheelchair accessible facilities. There is also an outdoor laundry basin for athletes to rinse off sports equipment. 

Vanuatu Cricket Association has agreed to manage the long-term operation and maintenance of the facility as they also manage the Independence park sports field.

The facility at Fatumaru Park houses toilets and hand washing basins for women and men as well as wheelchair accessible facilities.

Reggae Faea music festival successful in Port Vila

Reggae Faea is the only music-led health campaign advocating for the sexual and reproductive health issues and rights of the people of Vanuatu.

Local music bands share messages about the positive benefits of family planning to your life.

Port Vila Municipal youth President John Botleng expressed that Reggae Faea’s purpose is “to provide a safe and friendly platform for young people to learn about their health through music, which is a powerful tool to bring people together, to share information, and to express oneself.”

Port Vila celebrates International Youth day

Every year, International Youth Day celebrated on August 12 designed by the United Nation for young people globally to raise their voice under a specific theme.

For this year, the theme is: “Safe Spaces for Youth”.

Under the theme, Port Vila Municipal Youth Council (PVMYC) and Vanuatu National Youth Council (VNYC) gathered young people within Port Vila in different workshops on media, civic education, child Education and a workshop about the youth act

7th International youth day in Port Vila

The event is in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth & Sport Development, the SHEFA Provincial Government, the SHEFA Provincial Youth Council, Port Vila Municipal Youth Council and the Vanuatu National Youth Council.

The IYD is an international day designated by the United Nations and is observed annually on the 12th of August.

It is designed to be an opportunity for Government and youth stakeholders to draw attention on youth issues worldwide.

PNG athletics team in Vanuatu

The athletes are 100m and 200m sprinters Frederick Ageda (Pom) and Linus Kuravi (WNB); distance runners Gethru Komba and Mary Tenge (Simbu) ; middle distance runner Lyanne Tibu (ENB); and East Sepik athlete Isila Apkup who runs 400m.

Athletics PNG President, Tony Green, said the six represent the best of the young talent which emerged from the National Championships and PNG Games last year.

Veteran hurdler and Vanuatu resident, Mowen Boino, will also compete at the Championships and assist team manager Nabase Duaba.

The Today Show to go live from Port Vila

The popular “Weekend Today” weather segments will be shown live from Port Vila into over 1 million Australian homes over the weekend.

Volcano evacuees in Port Vila await return to Ambae

The Vanuatu Daily Post reports 566 evacuees in Port Vila were issued with National ID Cards which will be used to repatriate the people to Ambae in the north of the country.

Ships and planes have been repatriating the bulk of those displaced who'd been evacuated to the neighbouring islands of Santo, Maewo and Pentecost.

Meanwhile the National Disaster Management Office is working with Ambae's disaster committee to care for over 7000 returnees.

Reports from the island say volcanic ash or sand was still falling and threatening water supplies.

Port Vila acclaimed as one of the best with new-look Seafront Park

Chief representative for Ifira Paramount Chief Paunimanu Mantoi Kalsakau III named the new-look Seafront, Feiawa, which means an anchorage for everyone. 

This is a significant milestone for Port Vila and was a key component of the celebrations to open the park to mark the end of the Vt1.4 billion project.  

New Septage treatment plant improves Port Vila's environment, sanitation

The facility was opened on Tuesday by the Minister of Infrastructure Jotham Napat, Australian High Commissioner Jenny Da Rin, Port Vila Lord Mayor Ulrich Sumptoh, and Asian Development Bank (ADB) Director Emma Veve. 

Funded by the Governments of Vanuatu and Australia, along with a $5 million loan from ADB through the Port Vila Urban Development Project (PVUDP), the facility will improve Port Vila’s waterways and the health of residents and surrounding communities.

New sanitation facilities for Seaside communities in Port Vila

The residents live in Seaside Paama, Seaside Futuna and Seaside Tongoa.

The sanitation facilities have been refurbished and extended to include universally accessible (disabled) toilet and shower facilities.

These facilities were reviewed by the Vanuatu Society for People with Disability (VSPD) to ensure safe and easy access for persons with mobility issues.

Child height hand-washing basins and laundry tubs as well as cleaning supply cupboards were included in the refurbishments.
