“It was great for the hospital to benefit from the Games and use some of the products that were not fully consumed during the Games,” said CEO of Van2017, Clint Flood.

These were items that Pacific Catering had purchased under their contract to provide the athlete meals, and a provision in the contract allowed Van2017 to donate any unused products. Pacific Catering provided 50,000 athlete meals at the convention centre from the period Nov 28- Dec 19.

The Vanuatu Archery team has made it through six months of training in China, making sure each athlete has reached their very best potential to achieve the goal of making their country proud at the upcoming Vanuatu Pacific Mini Games.

In the Team Vanuatu, there are Nine athletes – three women and six men – who will be competing in two categories within the sport which are Recurve and Compound.

A total of 10 teams are entered into the tournament—6 men’s and 4 women’s. 

The format will be a round robin, total point tournament.  This means that the suspense will build throughout the Games, with all the teams having a chance on the final day to win a medal.

Teams include:

• Mens—Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, FIJI, Tonga, Tuvalu
• Womens- Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga

The Games will be played at both the new Korman Complex as well as the Port Vila Municipal Stadium.

On Saturday 4 November 2017, a sport schedule was put in place with the assistance of Football Technical Delegate, Michael Song, to come up with a final draft.

In the Men’s entries, there are 6 Teams from Fiji, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu; and for the women’s entries, there are 4 Teams coming from Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.

According to Van2017 Sports Department, women’s soccer will be happening at the Port Vila Stadium and at Korman stadium, from the December 2 to December 14, 2017.

First Aid Trainer, Jane Laycock from Nightingale Medical Services was contracted by Van2017 to conduct three days of training to selected volunteer Team Leaders, general volunteers, and staffs in Port Vila.

According to Medical Coordinator in Van2017 office, Maturine Carlot, a total of 120 participants were identified to attend the training.

“We are conducting this week a Level 2 First Aid training for selected volunteers who will be working during the Games in various functional areas,” she said.

North Ambrym Zone Curriculum Advisor, John Magetor, said the visit of the Games mascot and the Sagoa in their schools was very impressive to the children.

“We’d heard about the Mini Games but not much more, because the communication network is a very big challenge to us. But having this visit in our villages is the best approach that Van2017 made to bring us clear and up-to-date information about the Mini Games, and I think that is the best alternative that the government should use,” he said.

After months of interviewing, screening and selection processes, the Van2017 Security department has finally awarded contracts to successful applicants.

“This is a very important day for us today”, said CEO Clint Flood, when welcoming the operators for a service contract signing at the Van2017 head office.

For many of you, your work is going to start on November 1, 2017 at Korman. There is a lot of training to be done, a lot of work to be done and while we want you to be a security team, you are more than that and we want you to be ambassadors for the country.

Last week 19 women’s group representatives put pen on the paper to confirm their commitment to the Pacific Mini Games workforce services.

“Without you, our villages will not be clean; we need you to make sure that our athletes feel at home,” said VanCEO Clint Flood, in his remarks to all local contractors.

The training was conducted by Mr James Willy Quan, who is from Solomon Islands and lives in Australia.

He is an International Tennis Federation silver badge referee with more than 20 years’ experience in tennis officiating. He is also a chair umpire assessor.

This training program is part of the Sport Delivery contract signed between Van2017 and all National Sport Federations that outlined roles and objectives in order to have in place specific plans in line with the Legacy Plan of Van2017.

They are Brian Himsley, a consultant from Telemedia New Zealand Limited, and Shane Ornsby as a Technical broadcaster.

Both spent four days in Port Vila to meet with Van2017’s key people in the Broadcasting section as well as management of Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation.

“We signed an agreement with Van2017 to assist in scoping out the size of the broadcast piece of work and to produce the Host Broadcast for the Van2017 Pacific Mini Games,” explained Mr Himsley.
