New two-way radio system for Santo East School Enforcement Officers

The radios will be used to enhance communication between officers and staff in school, making it easier to control and manage student behavior, as well as daily activities.

The radios were provided by the school administration, and are part of an effort to improve security measures in the school and ensure a safe learning environment for all students from Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) to Secondary.

Vanuatu minister says harvests will take time to recover after cyclones

Ralph Regenvanu said the main food push started in the middle of last week, with only a small amount of supplies being handed out in the immediate aftermath of the severe back-to-back cyclones.

He said there's been logistical issues in getting the food distributed, but dry rations should reach everyone in the two worst affected provinces, Shefa and Tafea, by the end of this week.

"It's not really ideal but it's still within the timeframe we've set which is three weeks from the cyclone and those three weeks end about now," Regenvanu said.

Vanuatu record second loss in Tri-nations series

After a goalless first half, the Solomons took the lead through Gagame Feni, the Telekom S-League's top scorer, in the 68th minute.

The Solomons continued to push forward, and were rewarded with a second goal by Central Coast's William Komasi in the 81st minute.

Vanuatu had started the tournament with an upset 2-1 win against Fiji.

In the day's other match at Churchill Park, the Fiji senior team drew 2-2 with the Fiji Under-20s side.

The senior side finished with ten men when Tevita Warainivalu was dismissed in the second half.

PM says NZ is "proud" to provide disaster response aid for Vanuatu

Vanuatu is recovering after two devastating cyclones and an earthquake​ ripped through the island two weeks ago, destroying homes and livelihoods.

Chris Hipkins says regular Hercules flights delivering essential supplies is ongoing and personnel are still on the ground providing disaster response co-ordination.

“If they’re asking for more support in that area, that’s something we’d certainly look at.”

SHEFA Province and Oxfam strengthen partnership

Authorities have reported that some 250,000 people were affected in the aftermath of the two cyclones this month.

This represents more than 80 per cent of the country’s population.

Officials of the SPGC and Oxfam in the Pacific on 19 March, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as part of ongoing efforts to support the response.

The MoU was signed between the Assistant Secretary-General (SG) of SPGC, Liah Kaltoi and the Country Coordinator of Oxfam in Vanuatu, Anita Samana Jack.

US confirms re-establishing embassy in Vanuatu

The delegation, which is touring the Pacific, spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Vanuatu, announced that the US wants to deepen the bilateral relationship.

RNZ pacific reports the US has previously unveiled plans for new embassies in Solomon Islands, Kiribati and Tonga.

The spokesperson for the delegation, Joseph Zadrovny, told local media there is a degree of strategic competition in the Pacific but the US wants to help address the specific needs of the people.

Joe Moses joins Team Vanuatu for Tri-Nations International Friendlies

Moses joined training yesterday with the rest of the team at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

The Galaxy FC winger made his first overseas appearance when he played for Galaxy in the 2021 OFC Champions League in Auckland.

This will be the second time that he plays for Vanuatu since his first selection in the Vanuatu Development Team that competed in the inaugural MSG Prime Ministers’ Cup tournament held in Port Vila in 2022.

Port Vila call to phase out fossil fuels

A Pacific minister's climate conference was attended by seven nations over three days in Vanuatu last week - only days after back-to-back category four cyclones.

The conference resulted in six countries signing the Port Vila call for a just transition to a fossil fuel free Pacific.

The signatories - Tonga, Fiji, Niue, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu - acknowledged the cyclones as the latest example of "fossil fuel-induced loss and damage" in the region.

Nineteen year-old Ni-Vanuatu man sustains intensive injuries from TC Judy

The Daily Post reports surgeon Richard Leona saying the boy was transferred from a hospital on Ambae and admitted to the surgical ward at Vila Centre Hospital.

Dr Leona explained the boy was found by relatives who went searching for him four days after the cyclone had passed.

He had been trapped under the fallen tree during the storm.
